The modern and understatedly elegant Barceló Royal Hideaway Corales Suites is located at the fishing village of La Caleta, a few kilometres north of Costa Adeje. Its rooftop infinity swimming pool is the ultimate in luxury – the pool is attended by attentive but discreet staff, you don’t really notice them, but the minute you need something they are there.
It is superbly located to watch the sun set over the village below, where you can go to one of the many fine restaurants, including the popular La Masía del Mar.

This long-established favourite of Irish holidaymakers has undergone a complete rebuild in the last two years. I stayed here many years ago but its new modern décor bears no resemblance to the traditional style it once held.
However, it still follows the old layout and building footprint, and maintains its privileged location on the sea front where the sound of the waves at night can send you blissfully to sleep.
This revamped version of Los Fariones boasts a heated infinity pool and rooftop bar, yet you can still enjoy the activity of Puerto del Carmen next door. The nearby fishing port has a couple of Spanish fish restaurants, and hotel guests have access to the adjacent sports club and gym.

This hotel is located at the end of Maspalomas beach and promenade, tucked away quietly at the edge of a nature reserve -La Charca, the pond, de Maspalomas.

As with many hotels on the Canary islands the Hotel Secrets Bahia Real Resort & Spa is spacious with many open and uncovered areas. Located at the start of the stunning dunes of Corralejo, this adult-only hotel has a beach bar with a walkway over the beach, which is often used for weddings because of the views of beach, dunes and crystal clear turquoise water.
The theme of this hotel is opulence and calm luxury, a perfect setting to unwind in. The hotel was recently refurbished, and the bedrooms are spacious with large balconies designed with a native Canarian theme. The property has two large swimming pools as well as a large Spa with a wellness area and extensive treatment rooms.
As the hotel is located about a five minute walk from the town of Corralejo, the main town in the north of this quiet island, it is easy to enjoy the nice bars, restaurants and good shopping facilities there. 15. Hotel Jardin Tecina, La Gomera
Last but not least…. An adventurous ferry ride from Los Cristianos in Tenerife will lead you to this hidden gem of an island, La Gomera. It is very quiet and peaceful, and popular with hill walkers and nature lovers. One of the few hotels on the island, Hotel Jardin Tecina is owned and managed by the ferry company Fred Olsen, and caters to many Swiss and German tourists.
Spread over the extensive property the rooms are in detached two floor buildings, most with stunning sea views. The hotel grows its own fruit and vegetables on site, making for delicious food.
Golfers will fall in love with the adjacent golf course, which starts at the top of a hill and meanders down its slopes against the back drop of the sea.
Although officially only a 4-star hotel, I felt it deserved a place on this list – this is one hotel I dream about in the depths of winter in Ireland!
