Barcelona stag do guide
Barcelona is one of Europe’s most-visited cities, and in recent years it has also become one of our most sought-after stag do destinations. Why? Well, if you’ve never been to Barcelona then let us fill you in.
You’ve got incredible beaches that rival those of Rio de Janeiro. Spectacular architecture, such as Gaudi’s iconic Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell. Hundreds of tapas bars where you can get a bite to eat with every beer. And a nightlife scene to rival any other European city, that gets going around midnight and doesn’t stop until the early hours of the morning. The Catalan capital has got it all.
Read on for our comprehensive stag do guide to Barcelona, so that you know how to get around, some of the highlights of the nightlife, and a few of our favourite Barcelona stag do activities from Nou Camp tours to party cruises.
Great if you are looking for
- A seaside destination stuffed full of arty and cultural sights
- A tour of Barcelona FC's majestic Nou Camp Stadium
- Bar crawls, mouth watering tapas and epic party boat cruises
Getting around
Barcelona is served by many budget airlines from the UK, so you should have no trouble getting a cheap flight if you book early enough. The airport is a 40-minute journey from the city centre, so there are two ways of getting into town which we’d recommend. The first is the easiest: allow us to arrange door-to-door transfers from the airport direct to your Barcelona stag hotel. Convenient, and great value.
Alternatively, pick up a Hola BCN Card, which gives you unlimited public transport on the metro, buses, funicular and trams, and includes free transfers from the airport via bus, train or metro. You can purchase them in the airport terminals, and you can expect to pay about 25 Euros each for a three-day card.
Getting around Barcelona while you’re there is very easy, and most places can be walked. If you want to use public transport though then the metro and the tram are considered to be the quickest and most convenient methods. If you need taxis, they can be pre-booked, or flagged down in the street. They will usually accept payment by card.
Remember also that if you’re booking stag activities that require transport, we can always arrange your transfers to save you waiting around on trains or buses, or having to negotiate fares with taxi drivers. It also means everyone can just relax knowing the transport will definitely turn up on time, where it’s supposed to be.
Tips and ideas
Our expert stag do planners have got stacks of ideas and recommendations to help you plan your days (and nights) in Barcelona. We can tailor your trip to your group’s exact interests. But below we’ve put together some of the unmissable highlights of the Catalan capital, as well as some of our most-requested stag activities in Barcelona.
First off, if your group are footie fans, then we’d recommend a quick trip on the metro for a tour of the Nou Camp Stadium, home to Barcelona FC, and the museum there. If you’d like to actually catch a match while you’re there, just let us know, as we’ll be happy to arrange your tickets for you. The atmosphere in the Nou Camp on match day is absolutely electric.
You may have heard of Las Ramblas, as it’s the most famous street in Barcelona. Lined with bars, shops and stalls lined with trinket-sellers, it’s very touristy, and very crowded especially in summer. Pickpockets and scam artists do operate around here so if you’re having a ramble down Las Ramblas, keep an eye on your valuables, and your mates.
Barcelona’s beaches are renowned, and if you’re there for a summer stag, you’ll no doubt be thinking about a day on the sands. Barceloneta is the easiest beach to get to - it’s along the yellow metro line, or a 20-minute walk from the end of Las Ramblas.
Another of the most popular things to do in Barcelona for stag groups is making the journey up to the top of Montjuic, a wooded hill which is home to a number of interesting attractions. Here you’ll find the Joan Miro art gallery, the botanic gardens and the impressive Olympic stadium. You can get up there either by funicular or cable car.
For some sightseeing at ground level, we like the Go Car city tour, where you’ll climb into zippy little electric cars for a GPS-guided wander around the city. Each of these bright yellow cars seats just the driver and a passenger, and you can either follow a set route, or freestyle it, just so long as you have it back in time.
The architecture of Barcelona, specifically that of Antonio Gaudi, cannot be missed. You don’t need to take a guided tour of his incredible Sagrada Familia to be blown away by its scale or detail. Even from the pavement it’s impressive. Parc Guell is another interesting Gaudi piece, where you can see his signature wavy lines and patterned mosaics, as well as some superb views of the city.
We also have a wide range of other Barcelona stag activities that we know from long experience our groups enjoy, including the ludicrously fun Bubble Football, BBQ boat parties, and Beer Bike tours. Our expert stag planners know exactly what’s available in Barcelona for you to do, and can help you create an itinerary that will work for your group’s interests.
Nightlife
The first thing to note with our stag do guide to Barcelona nightlife is that things don’t even start getting busy until midnight, and the party goes on until the early hours of the morning. So you and the boys are going to need stamina, and you’re going to need to pace yourselves. If you’re racking up the shots at 7pm, then by the time the locals are heading out, you’re probably going to be crashing out.
There are several neighbourhoods in Barcelona worth checking out, including Las Ramblas, which is touristy but has lots of decent takeaways, the Gothic Quarter, and our most-recommended, El Born, which is central and also conveniently close to the beach.
Unsure of how to start your evening in Barcelona? We’ve got a couple of reliable suggestions. Firstly, take things nice and easy with our Complete Barcelona Stag Night, including a slap-up three course dinner, washed down with unlimited sangria, and followed by entry to one of the city’s best nightclubs. Alternatively, allow us to show you around the city in style with a Guided Pub Crawl, led by an attractive young lady who will see you into the finest nightspots on a route tailored to your interests. We can also sort you out with VIP entry to one of Barcelona’s liveliest nightclubs, many of which don’t close until the sun comes up.
Our most popular stag do bars in Barcelona include the Ice Bar, where you can expect a frosty welcome, but in a good way. Sub zero style is the name of the game here, with furniture and sculptures carved out of blocks of ice, and warm coats handed out on arrival. You won’t need ice in your drinks either, as they’re all served at room temperature. Not somewhere to stay all night, definitely, but very unique and refreshing too if you’re planning a Spain stag in July or August when it gets crazy hot.
L’Ovella Negra, on Las Ramblas, is a great place to start your evening, with tapas, beer hall-style seating, and a bustling ambience. 10 minutes walk north is the George Payne, an Irish pub. Sure, you’re in Barcelona, you want some continental culture and to drink where the locals drink, we get it. But also, your team might be in action over the weekend, and the George Payne is one of the best sports bars in Barcelona.
Another stag do friendly place in Barcelona where you can catch the Premier League is the Cocovail Beer Hall, serving a wide range of craft beers, delicious (and very cheap) chicken wings, and plenty of fun table games like Jenga to get stuck into while you drink.
Now, we know we said to pace yourselves on a Barcelona stag night, but later in the evening if you’re starting to feel a bit the worse for wear, make your way to Espit Chupitos. There are more than 600 types of shots available here: spicy, dry, creamy, set on fire - as well as a full slate of jugs and pitchers. It’s the ultimate pick-me-up and obviously a big favourite with both stag and hen groups.
Lastly - for the stag group that likes its burgers greasy, its music loud, and its floors sticky, introducing Bollocks Bar. Rock ‘n’ roll heaven, with cocktails, pinball, loaded nachos and happy hour from 7pm ‘til 10pm. Bollocks Bar - it’s a swinging place.
FAQ
Is Barcelona good for a stag do?
Barcelona is a legendary stag do destination and one that we’re seeing more and more groups request. The reasons are very simple: sun, sand and superb nightlife. Here you can chill on the beach in the morning, take a party cruise aboard a catamaran in the afternoon, then hit the bars and clubs until the early hours of the morning. There are loads of brilliant stag do activities in Barcelona, and at just two hours flight time from London, it’s a no-brainer for the sophisticated stag.
Can we play bubble football in Barcelona?
Bubble Football is one of our most popular Barcelona stag do activities. The concept is as simple. You’re strapped into bulky plastic bubbles, so that just your legs and feet are poking out, then you have a kickabout, or take part in a range of silly football challenges. As you bounce into and off each other, you’ll be sent sprawling but completely unhurt as the bubble protects you. The hard bit? Getting back up again. Ludicrous fun.
Whereabouts is your Barcelona stag accommodation?
We have a wide range of superb Barcelona stag hotels to suit every budget around the city, and we aim to accommodate all of our groups within a 10-20 minute walk of the main nightlife areas. Because no-one wants a long walk back in the early hours of the morning, and sometimes there’s just never a taxi when you need one.
Where do your Barcelona stag do reviews come from?
Our Barcelona stag do reviews are submitted independently via the Trustpilot app, so you can be confident they’re genuine. With an average rating of 9.6 / 10 from over 1,300 reviews, we’re confident our team can organise a fantastic trip for you and your mates. And we’d love to hear about it when you get back, because all reviews are read to help us improve our service.
Where to go for the best Barcelona nightlife on a stag do?
There are several good areas for stag groups in Barcelona, but our personal favourite is the El Born neighbourhood. Conveniently close to the beach, it boasts some of the best stag-friendly bars in Barcelona. Another area definitely worth checking out is the Gothic Quarter. Cool nightspots are found throughout its medieval, twisty-turny streets, as well as many good places to sample some excellent Catalan cuisine.
Can you arrange a BBQ boat party in Barcelona?
One of our most-requested Barcelona stag activities is a party cruise aboard a stylish catamaran. Some cruises can hold up to 150 revellers making for an awesome atmosphere. Bring your swim trunks because during a three-hour cruise under the Mediterranean sun, as well as a delicious barbecue feast you’ll also get to play on the floating trampoline.
